Penny Middleton BA MA Cert (Oxon)
Senior Archaeologist
Penny has over fifteen years experience as a project manager, historic buildings and landscape surveyor and field archaeologist. She has an MA in British Archaeology from Reading University and a post-graduate certificate in Architectural History from the University of Oxford. She has recently joined Archaeo-Environment from Northern Archaeological Associates where she has been a Senior Project Officer for the last four years and prior to this the manager of the Geomatics department at Oxford Archaeology.
Penny has extensive experience of working on heritage led projects and brings to the company a diverse range of management and field skills. Since joining AE she has worked on a number of conservation led projects, including Seaham and Chester Farm, and has previously worked closely with the North of England Civic Trust on Conservation Management Plans at Ravensworth Castle, Gateshead and Gayle Mill, North Yorkshire (both features on the BBC Restoration series). Much of this work has involved working closely with the local community.
She is a trained Buildings Archaeologist and landscape surveyor with specialist expertise in metric survey and GPS, GIS, digital image correction, Digital Terrain Modelling (DTM) and AutoCAD. She has undertaken numerous historic buildings surveys on a range of structures, from Victorian asylums to more humble farm buildings.
