Trial Trenching

Possibly the most common form of evaluation, the County Archaeologist may request a series of trenches to be dug across a proposed development area. These are usually positioned to target specific features identified by geophysical survey but may also be requested as a percentage of the whole site. The archaeology in these trenches is plotted and recorded and any finds and environmental deposits sent for evaluation by specialists.
