Historic Impact Assessments (HIA)
These are a broad range of assessments with the aim of ascertaining how any development or conservation project may impact the broader cultural historic environment of an area. It will feature a Desk-Based Assessment (detailed elsewhere) but may also include other baseline surveys such as building and landscape appraisals. The HIA usually forms part of the more comprehensive EIA, although it might also be requested as a stand alone document by the County Archaeologist for certain smaller schemes.
