Written Schemes of Investigation (WSIs)

Often interchangeable with Method Statement or Project Design, a WSI will outline the approach and methodology to be used by an archaeological contractor in undertaking any form of archaeological investigation including test pitting, evaluation, excavation and watching brief.  This document is usually requested by the County Archaeologist and must demonstrate   that the work will be carried out to nationally accepted standards. It needs to be agreed in advance of any works being undertaken on site, and once approved any changes will need to be negotiated and agreed in advance with the County Archaeologist. Archaeo-Environment will provide any WSIs necessary for our own work but can also provide statements on a consultancy basis for inclusion in tender documentation.
