Case Study: South West Durham Heritage Corridor
When Durham County Council wanted to reopen a disused railway line as a recreational trail, Archaeo-Environment was commissioned to explore the conservation and interpretation options along the route. The resulting report flagged up the heritage interest within a 6km wide corridor and recommended the provision of path furniture and signage designed to reflect the Victorian style of the railway line. Downloadable guided walks and trails were proposed as one form of interpretation and each recommendation was costed using only local contractors and crafts people.
